馥 fù Rui ruì 白 bái(Transliteration of real name Flat White), commonly known asAustralian white coffee, one of the top three best-selling milk coffees in Starbucks. Different from latte and cappuccino,Fuli white coffeeIt has a velvety and smooth taste like latte and the richness of cappuccino. At Front Street Coffee, you can also find three types of coffee.

Fuli white coffeeThe origin of

According to Starbucks, Fuli White is an Australian creation~ It is a coffee that originated in Australia in the 1980s and is loved by coffee consumers in Australia and other regions. Starbucks customers in Australia have enjoyed the drinks in stores since 2009, while customers in the UK and US have enjoyed the drinks since 2010, before reaching China in 2012.

But people in New Zealand disagree with this origin description. The New Zealand Herald calls Fuli White "the quintessential New Zealand coffee." While Sydney coffee shops may have first served the drink in the 1980s, the Herald writes that Wellington is the perfect place for Four Whites.

Australian food historian Michael Simon has done an in-depth exploration of where Fuli Bai comes from, and the final explanation is as follows: Although Fuli Bai may come from Sydney and Melbourne, its best incarnation can be found in Wellington. He noted that some cafes in the late eighties and nineties had claimed to have contributed to its perfection, but that claim had yet to be resolved.

Although we are not sure where the Fuli White originated, one thing we are sure of is that compared to latte, the coffee flavor of Fuli White will be richer and the milk foam will be thinner, so both the taste and flavor will be richer.

How to make Starbucks Full White Coffee

Starbucks' Fuli White Coffee is made according to different cup types, using 2/3/4 parts of espresso, and then adding hot milk to create 0.5cm thick milk foam for the hot version. For the iced version, ice cubes and milk are first poured, and then espresso is poured over it.

Can Fulibai be drunk with ice?

But in fact, authentic Fuli white coffee only has a hot version. In order to meet the needs of all consumers for customized coffee, Starbucks provides a cold version. Therefore, if you want to further experience the richness of Fuli Bai, FrontStreet Coffee recommends that you try the hot version.

How to make Furi White Coffee at home?

To make a rich white coffee, you need to use a stronger (extra) espresso. Making espresso requires using a pressurized espresso machine and using medium-dark roasted espresso beans. The Fuli White we make here uses the classic Italian blended coffee beans from Front Street. This is a recipe composed of three origins: Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam. It uses deep roasting, which can highlight the mellow aroma of coffee to the greatest extent, and also allows everyone to easily extract rich and dense coffee oil. It is very suitable for making American style diluted with water or latte with milk.

FrontStreet Coffee uses pure espresso for the concentrated portion of its Fuli White Coffee, using 20g of coffee powder to extract 30g of coffee liquid, with an extraction time of 23-28 seconds.

Then pour 150ml of refrigerated fresh milk into the milk vat, and use the steam wand of the coffee machine to inflate and heat the milk to create milk foam with a thickness of about 0.5cm. Then combine the milk and coffee.

What is the difference between flat white and latte?

Also composed of only milk and espresso, there is a clear difference in the taste of flat white and latte in terms of production and taste. Caffe Latte means milk in Italian. Latte is about achieving a balance between coffee and milk. You can not only drink the taste of coffee, but also taste the sweet and mellow taste of milk. The two complement each other and do not cover up the taste of each other. Flat white highlights the flavor of coffee by adding milk. Coffee is the protagonist and milk is only an auxiliary. Therefore, Fuli Bai has more coffee flavor and richer flavor.

Although flat white has its own characteristics, there is no fixed production ratio in the industry. The baristas in each coffee shop present different flat whites based on their different understanding of it and the Italian coffee beans used in their own stores.

The flat white produced by New Zealand baristas is presented in a coffee cup smaller than a latte (about 150ml), and the base uses double concentrate. In this way, as the amount of milk decreases, the proportion of coffee increases, and the coffee flavor naturally becomes stronger. Therefore, flat white is also called "little latte".

As baristas continue to improve their extraction techniques, in order to more perfectly express the aroma of Australian white and medium-sized coffee beans, Melbourne coffee shops will also replace the base with a double Ristretto, incorporating milk foam about the same thickness as a latte into a 150ml cup. Ristretto refers to an espresso with less liquid weight extracted from the same amount of powder. It can be said to be a smaller version of espresso. It is more concentrated in the front and middle parts of the extraction and has a richer taste. Therefore, higher quality requirements are required for the coffee beans used.

However, in Australia, baristas believe that it is enough to keep the milk foam thinner than that of a latte. When they produce Australian White, they use a cup with the same capacity as a latte, emphasizing more on the difference in the thickness of the milk foam. Compared with latte, cappuccino and other milk coffees, Fulibai's milk foam is the thinnest, generally 0.3 to 0.5cm.

The "Flat" in Flat white means flat. The milk foam must be thin enough to be flush with the rim of the cup, and the milk foam layer must not be allowed to bulge, so that every sip of espresso liquid has a dense foam layer. Therefore, Fulibai is also called "plain white coffee". Most of the milk foam for latte coffee will have a bulge of about 0.5 to 0.7cm, while the milk foam for Australian white coffee can only be below 0.5cm, otherwise it will be difficult to achieve a "flat" liquid level. Front Street hopes that customers can enjoy the taste of Fuli Bai as smooth as cream without being too "watery", and will retain a 0.3cm milk foam layer.
