Nowadays, Pour over(V60) coffee and espresso are the two most mainstream brewing methods, so coffee beans in the consumer market are almost developed around these two uses. The extraction principles of Pour over(V60) coffee and espresso are different. Hand-brewed coffee is a normal-pressure drip extraction, which is a bit like making tea and has a refreshing taste; while espresso coffee is a pressurized extraction that uses high pressure to press out the coffee substances. The extracted coffee is very small and rich. The raw materials used by the two, that is, coffee beans, and the adjustment of extraction parameters are also different.

What we call Pour over(V60) coffee is to first grind the coffee beans into powder, and then inject hot water into contact with the powder layer to "dissolve" the substances in the coffee. In fact, you use a filter cup with filter paper or other tools to filter the coffee grounds and prevent them from entering the lower pot together, so that you can get a clear cup of black coffee. If you want to brew a cup of Pour over(V60) coffee, speaking from Front Street’s brewing experience, in addition to high-quality coffee beans, Front Street believes that you need to be equipped with at least the following equipment: a hand-pour pot for filling water, a filter cup and filter paper for filtering coffee grounds, a sharing pot, a grinder for grinding coffee beans, an electronic scale to record the amount and time of water injection, and a thermometer to measure the water temperature.

Since the extraction time of drip coffee is long, usually at least a few minutes, in order to extract a cup of rich coffee in a short time, the Italians thought of using steam pressure to pass high-temperature and high-pressure water through the coffee powder cake to speed up the extraction rate of the original drip coffee. With continuous improvements and updates, our common semi-automatic/fully-automatic espresso machines have been derived. When using an espresso machine, the coffee beans are ground into powder, pressed into a handle, and hot water is pushed into the coffee powder through high pressure to extract a cup of rich-tasting espresso, also called espresso. Because the concentration is high, we will add water or milk to taste. Our common American style, latte, and cappuccino are all made with espresso as the base.

Although the operation seems simple, using an espresso machine for extraction requires that the soluble flavor substances in the coffee be released into hot water in just a few tens of seconds. The contact between the coffee and the water must be more complete, and the grinding must be very fine and uniform, which tests the quality of the coffee beans and the skills of the barista. There are many factors that affect the flavor of a cup of espresso, including the quality of coffee beans, roasting degree, grinding degree, coffee machine boiler pressure, water temperature, powder filling pressure, powder amount, extraction time, extraction liquid weight and other factors and details. The four major factors used to adjust extraction in daily life are powder volume, time, liquid weight, and grinding degree. The brewing parameters will change subtly based on the air humidity and coffee bean status every day, so it needs to be adjusted up or down to achieve better extraction results.

Friends who have had coffee at the Front Street store should have seen the small blackboard of Front Street’s bean list. Half a hundred items are divided into many different production areas. Front Street is all produced in the form of hand brewing or ice dripping. For making espresso, Front Street has multiple blended beans. If you use lightly roasted Pour over(V60) single-origin coffee beans to make espresso coffee, under finer grinding and high pressure, the coffee taste will be very strong and concentrated, and it will easily appear negative bitterness, sourness, and astringency. Therefore, generally based on the two different forms of extraction, hand brewing and Italian style, Front Street recommends selecting the corresponding coffee beans for extraction.

Hand brewing allows people to taste the original aroma and flavor of black coffee. If you are a new player, Front Street recommends using more cost-effective coffee beans for practice. First of all, it is easier to understand the major production areas from the regional flavor, and it can also avoid waste caused by operational errors.

Front Street Beans has a series of ration beans on its menu. The so-called ration beans are delicious and not expensive. Because espresso is extracted under fine grinding, high water temperature, and high pressure, espresso brings together a variety of flavors, and various flavor compounds impact our tongues exponentially. As a crop, coffee will change with the climate, soil, etc. Even if it comes from the same place, the flavor of each batch of coffee beans will be different. The blending of coffee beans uses the method of complementing each other's strengths to ensure that every coffee bean can show a balanced and stable aroma and taste.

As a hot-selling Italian coffee bean, Front Street Classic Blend coffee beans are very suitable for novices, learning latte latte art, and boutique coffee shops pursuing high-end positioning. For those who want to learn latte art at home, buy the Front Street Classic Blend, which is a medium-dark roasted Italian recipe composed of three production areas. Its design is inspired by the popular "Mamba" in ancient times, namely Mandheling and Brazil. In order to add aroma and oiliness, the Front Street Classic Blend also contains a small amount of Robusta to enhance the flavor intensity and allow novices to easily make Italian espresso with golden yellow oil at home.

When producing Americano coffee, Front Street will grind the coffee beans into powder, extract espresso coffee according to a powder-to-liquid ratio of 1:2, and pour it into water for dilution. That is, 20 grams of coffee powder will be used to extract 40 grams of coffee liquid. According to Front Street's many experiments, the ratio of coffee liquid to water of 1:6 is most suitable to express the aroma of Front Street's classic blend. That is, 40 grams of coffee liquid is poured into 240 grams of 88°C hot water, and the hot Americano is finished.

If iced Americano is produced, the hot water will be replaced with 120 grams of ice cubes and 120 grams of room temperature water. The taste will be best before the ice cubes melt.
