Every time I go to a coffee shop, I believe that my friends will start to wonder whether it is better to have Americano or hand-pour coffee today...or whether it is better to have latte or dirty coffee! Faced with a dazzling array of coffee menus and coffee products that all seem to look the same, what are the actual differences? This article, FrontStreet Coffee, will give you a rundown of the common coffee types in cafes!
There are three common types of coffee in cafes: Italian coffee family, drip coffee family, and cold brew coffee family.
"Italian Coffee Family"
Italian coffee, also known as Italian espresso, is an espresso machine that injects water into extremely finely ground coffee powder under a pressurized state, and finally extracts coffee with a higher concentration. Related products of this family are all made by adding other ingredients to the espresso base. The same ingredients will produce different products in different proportions.

FrontStreet Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee) stores use "Front Street Sunflower Warm Italian Blend Coffee Beans" for daily espresso production. This coffee bean is made from 30% sun-dried Yirgacheffe red cherry coffee beans + 70% Honduras whiskey barrel-processed sherry coffee beans. The extracted espresso has a rich aroma of fermented wine, sweet and sour berries, vanilla cream, and nutty caramel.
The extraction parameters for double espresso are generally 19-20g coffee powder, 35-40g coffee liquid is extracted, and the extraction time is 28-35 seconds. The extraction parameters for a single espresso are generally 11-12g coffee powder, 20g coffee liquid is extracted, and the extraction time is 18-23 seconds. Of course, the performance of every espresso machine and espresso grinder is different. The above data are for reference only, and the final decision needs to be based on actual conditions.

Common espresso coffee is also divided into: regular espresso coffee Espresso (the above-mentioned are the recommended extraction parameters for Espresso), espresso Ristretto, and single-origin espresso Single Orgin Espresso/SOE (espresso extracted using single-origin coffee beans). The difference between the three is that espresso coffee will be richer than espresso (the extraction ratio will be reduced), while single-origin espresso uses coffee beans from a single production area/estate, while espresso uses coffee beans blended from different production areas.
Common family members are: American coffee, latte coffee, cappuccino coffee, Fuli white/Australian white/Australian white coffee, Dirty coffee and mocha coffee.
Americano (water+Espresso)-FrontStreet Coffee store method is two parts of regular espresso, adding hot water/ice water mixture in a ratio of 1:6-1:8.

Latte (milk+Espresso) - The method used in FrontStreet Coffee stores is two portions of regular espresso, adding hot milk/iced milk/iced milk + ice cubes after whipping milk foam in a ratio of 1:5-1:8.

Cappuccino (normally only hot, dense and foamy milk+milk+Espresso) - The cappuccino method at FrontStreet Coffee stores is two parts of regular espresso, adding hot milk with thick milk foam in a ratio of 1:5-1:8.

Fulibai/Oribai/Australian white coffee (normally only hot, thin milk foam+milk+Espresso) - FrontStreet Coffee stores use two portions of espresso, adding hot milk with thin milk foam in a ratio of 1:5-1:6. Different from latte, its coffee concentration is higher and less milk is added, so it tastes richer.

DirtyCoffee (cold only, iced cups+Ice milk supports two espressos) The method used in FrontStreet Coffee stores is to add 160ml of ice milk to a refrigerated ice cup, and then put it directly close to the coffee outlet, allowing the espresso to flow directly into the milk. Because of the difference in density, the espresso floats back to the surface of the milk and creates a layered gradient effect. Different from latte, Dirty coffee does not need to be stirred evenly when drinking, and you can feel the different layers, textures and flavors produced by the gradual fusion of coffee and milk during the drinking process.

Mocha coffee (chocolate sauce + milk + espresso) - FrontStreet Coffee store method is to mix two parts of regular espresso + chocolate sauce evenly, then add frothed hot milk / ice milk / ice milk + ice cubes in a ratio of 1:5-1:8.
"Drip filter coffee family"
Drip coffee is a type of coffee where water is extracted by natural gravity through coffee grounds and through a filter paper/mesh. Through the ratio of coffee powder to injected water, the extraction concentration is moderate, which allows the coffee to express different taste levels, and the coffee will taste cleaner~
Common members of the drip coffee family include: Pour over(V60) coffee and iced drip coffee. Hand-brewed coffee is coffee extracted at high temperature, while iced drip coffee is coffee extracted at low temperature. The difference between the two is:
The advantage of high-temperature extraction is that it can quickly extract the flavor substances of coffee, causing the tannic acid in the coffee to quickly decompose into pyroacid, resulting in sweetness and sourness, which is the process of releasing the flavor of coffee that is often said on the street. The disadvantage of high-quality extraction is that it easily causes the coffee flavor to be completely released, and then begins to release the woody fiber flavor of the coffee beans, which is what we often call unpleasant flavors such as miscellaneous flavor and woody flavor.

The advantage of low-temperature extraction is that the flavor of coffee evaporates less under low-temperature conditions, and the coffee aroma is stored in the coffee liquid as much as possible. When the coffee liquid is drunk into the mouth, the temperature of the coffee liquid rises, and the aroma contained in the coffee liquid suddenly explodes, allowing coffee drinkers to feel the strong aroma at the back of the tongue in the mouth. This sudden explosion of aroma will make people feel a great sense of happiness. The disadvantage is that it takes a long time to make, and the filtered ice-drip coffee cannot be drunk immediately. It needs to be placed in the refrigerator for more than 8 hours to fully release the flavor molecules extracted at low temperature.

Hand-brewed coffee - When FrontStreet Coffee makes Pour over(V60) coffee, in order to ensure the stable quality of each cup, they will uniformly use 15g of coffee powder with a powder-to-water ratio of 1:15 for brewing (that is, pour 225g of water), and the technique will also use a three-stage water injection. Lightly roasted-medium roasted coffee beans are ground to medium fine (China No. 20 standard sieve screening rate is 75-80%), and the brewing water temperature is recommended to be 90-91 degrees Celsius. Medium-dark roast - Dark roasted coffee beans are ground medium-coarse (Chinese No. 20 standard sieve screening rate is 65-70%), and the brewing water temperature is recommended to be 88-89 degrees Celsius.

FrontStreet Coffee believes that whether a cup of coffee tastes good or not is when the injected water passes through the coffee grounds 100% and extracts substances in a reasonable time. The water temperature used, the grind size used, and the appropriate amount of water injected. No matter how you add water, you can brew a cup of coffee that satisfies you.
Ice-drip coffee - FrontStreet Coffee When making ice-drip coffee, you need to use an ice-drip coffee pot. The water-to-powder ratio used in FrontStreet Coffee's iced dripping is 1:10, that is, 60 grams of coffee powder extracts 600 ml of coffee liquid. The coffee extracted in this way is richer and needs to be diluted before drinking.

"Cold brew coffee"
Cold brew coffee is also known as cold brew coffee. Although both are low-temperature extractions, they are completely different extraction methods from ice-drip coffee. Ice drip coffee extracts flavor substances by dripping water through the coffee powder layer, while cold brew coffee extracts coffee substances by fully soaking the coffee powder. The difference in taste between the two is that iced drip coffee is relatively refreshing and clean, while cold brew coffee is relatively full and fragrant.
The single-origin coffee beans used by FrontStreet Coffee to make cold brew coffee can be purchased at the Front Street flagship store. Those who like sour and sweet flavors can choose "Oiran Coffee Beans from Sidamo Production Area in Ethiopia", those who like fermentation can choose "Costa Rican Musician Series Mozart Coffee Beans", those who like less sourness can choose "Brazilian Queen Manor Coffee Beans", and those who like wine aroma can choose "Honduras Sherry Coffee Beans".

The preparation of cold brew coffee is also very simple. The container can be a mineral water bottle or a glass bottle, as long as it has a sealing lid. The ground coffee powder will be slightly finer than hand brewing, about 85% fineness through a No. 20 sieve.
FrontStreet Coffee will use 50 grams of coffee powder as the basis, put the coffee powder into a glass bottle, then add 400 ml of room temperature water and 200 grams of hard ice cubes into the bottle (if there is no ice cubes, you can add cold water instead), the powder to water ratio is 1:12, then use a stir stick to stir the coffee powder and water evenly, then seal it and place it in the refrigerator. Place it in the refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Use filter paper to filter out the coffee grounds to get clean coffee liquid. Then use a clean sealed bottle to put the coffee liquid in and refrigerate it for about 4 hours before drinking. This will make it taste better!

Finally, no matter what kind of coffee it is, it must be freshly roasted and freshly ground to taste good. FrontStreet Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee) In order to allow everyone to drink the freshest coffee beans, the coffee beans are sent out within 5 days after the roasting date. By default, the original beans are sent out. The best tasting period is 30 days after the roasting is completed. Although you can grind it for you, the aroma and flavor of the coffee will dissipate faster after grinding. Therefore, if you want to drink the best flavor of coffee, the best way is to buy coffee beans and grind them yourself~
