Cold brew coffee has always been loved by coffee lovers. Cold brew coffee is easy to make and can be made at home or in the office without any difficulty. This time Front Street will talk about the ratio of making cold brew coffee and introduce three methods of making cold brew.
Cold brew coffee extraction principle
Cold brew coffee is produced by mixing coffee powder and ice water in a certain proportion and then slowly extracting it. The coffee produced by the cold extraction process has lower acidity and astringency. The low temperature conditions and long-term contact with the coffee powder make it possible for only small molecule flavor substances to be extracted, such as floral and fruity aromas. Those larger molecule flavor substances, such as smoky flavor, are difficult to extract.

What are the flavor characteristics of cold brew coffee?
Low-temperature extraction and long extraction time are the two major characteristics of cold-extracted coffee, and they are also the two main differences between cold-extracted coffee and high-temperature extracted coffee. High-temperature extracted coffee uses hot water to extract coffee beans, the temperature is between 85-93°C, and the time generally does not exceed 3 minutes. Cold brew coffee itself can fully reflect the subtle taste characteristics of coffee. Due to the mild acidity, sweet taste, bright taste and soft taste of coffee, it shows the flavor characteristics of specialty coffee production areas.
[Coffee beans are ground and made directly]
Grinding degree: A finer grinding degree than Pour over(V60) coffee (80% passes through No. 20 standard sieve)
The ratio of coffee powder to ice water: 1:10
Preparation equipment: sealed bottle & filter paper/screen

1. Prepare 50g of Front Street Butterfly coffee beans and grind them into fine powder (the pass rate of No. 20 standard sieve is 80%).
2. Pour the ground coffee powder into a sealed bottle, add 400ml of room temperature water and 100g of hard ice cubes.
3. Cover the lid and shake evenly, put it in the refrigerator for 12-14 hours, and perform low-temperature slow extraction.
4. When the time is up, use filter paper (filter) to isolate the coffee grounds. The resulting coffee liquid can be enjoyed immediately, or can be refrigerated and consumed within 48 hours.

[Ear-hanging bag production]
Preparation materials: Front Street Yirgacheffe coffee ear bag, sealed bottle, ice-water mixture
Powder to water ratio: 1:10 (the net content of an ear-hanging bag of FrontStreet Coffee is 10g)
1. It is best to prepare a clean sealed container with a lid, tear open the outer packaging bag, take out the ear hanging bag, tear open the opening of the ear hanging bag, pour the coffee powder in the ear hanging bag directly into the container, and keep the ear hanging bag as a filter after the extraction is completed.
2. The powder-to-water ratio of cold brew coffee is 1:10, and the net content of an ear-hanging bag is 10g, so we prepare 100ml of ice water and pour it into the container.
3. Cover and shake evenly, place in the refrigerator for low temperature extraction for 12-14 hours
4. (After extraction is completed) Take out the ear-hanging bag, open the ears of the ear-hanging bag and buckle it on your favorite cup, pour the cold brewed coffee into the ear-hanging bag, filter the coffee grounds and enjoy.

[Cold brew bag making]
Ingredients: Cold brew coffee pods made from Front Street Strawberry Candy, sealed wide mouth bottles/cups, ice water mixture
Powder to water ratio: 1:10/1:6 (the net content of a cold brew bag of FrontStreet Coffee is 10g)
1. Take out the strawberry sugar coffee cold brew bag and pick up the hanging rope.
2. Put it into a cup/bottle. It is recommended to extract at a ratio of 1:10 per package (a cold extraction package of 10g, add 100g of cold water, this is the ratio that can be drunk directly after the extraction is completed) or it is recommended to extract at a ratio of 1:6 per package (a cold extraction package of 10g, add 60g of cold water, this is the ratio of coffee liquid to other drinks after extraction)
3. Cover the lid, shake it, and place it in the refrigerator for extraction for 8-12 hours, allowing the coffee powder to fully contact the cold water.
4. After the cold brew is completed, take out the cold brew bag and enjoy.
