Many coffee fans have a special love for Americano coffee, so when they come to FrontStreet Coffee store, they will order a cup of iced Americano coffee. Then they find that the iced Americano coffee in FrontStreet Coffee store has a faint aroma of wine, which is very special. Next, this article about FrontStreet Coffee will tell coffee fans about the coffee beans used to make Americano at FrontStreet Coffee and how to make a cup of iced Americano.

What is Americano?

First of all, what is Americano coffee? According to Front Street, American coffee is traditionally black coffee made using a drip coffee pot. Because the general extraction time is relatively long (about four to five minutes), the caffeine content is higher.  At the same time, the process of making American coffee is also very simple, focusing on convenience, speed, and freedom. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee believes that American coffee tastes more refreshing than Italian coffee and can better restore the original taste of coffee beans.

But the Americano coffee in cafes today is somewhat different from the traditional definition. The current Americano coffee is based on espresso, mixed with a large amount of water, and then added with ice cubes as needed to become a cup of iced Americano coffee. Secondly, if you want to drink hot American coffee, just add hot water directly.

Front Street Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee) Why does iced Americano taste like alcohol?

FrontStreet Coffee As mentioned above, the iced Americano in FrontStreet Coffee has a light alcoholic flavor. This is because the coffee beans used to make the "espresso" are the Sunflower Warm Sun Blend coffee beans in FrontStreet Coffee. This blend uses FrontStreet Coffee. Coffee) is made from a blend of coffee beans processed in sherry barrels and sun-dried Yirgacheffe red cherries.

Seventy percent of the coffee beans are Honduran sherry barrel coffee beans, which provide the flavor and body of the blended beans. The other 30% of the coffee beans are Yirgacheffe sun-dried red cherries, which provide more aroma and acidity to the blended beans.

This is why the iced Americano in FrontStreet Coffee has a wine flavor, and the espresso base used in FrontStreet Coffee also uses this blend of coffee beans.

Front Street Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee) Reasons for using blended coffee beans as the base for iced Americano

Then there will definitely be coffee fans here asking why FrontStreet Coffee uses blended espresso to make Iced Americano instead of single-origin espresso?

This is because blended coffee beans are a mixture of different coffee beans, which have different personalities due to different varieties and origins. There are subtle differences in sour, bitter, sweet, aroma, mellow and other flavors. Single-origin coffee beans often focus on showing the unique characteristics of a certain type of coffee.

Blended coffee is a kind of coffee that mixes various single-origin coffee beans together to bring out the advantages of each single-origin coffee bean. They complement each other and complement each other in taste, or strengthen it, thereby creating a richer new taste. That’s why FrontStreet Coffee uses Nuanyang blended espresso beans as the “espresso” product in the store. The purpose is so that customers can drink Italian coffee with stable flavor every time.

Therefore, if you use single-origin bean extraction and espresso (SOE coffee) to make the flavor, the flavor will be very unstable. This is because the high-pressure extraction of the espresso machine will amplify the flavor of the beans themselves. That is, the citrus acid shown in hand brewing will become sour after being extracted by the espresso machine. At the same time, it will be easy to over-extract to remove unpleasant flavors such as bitterness and astringency. Every time you extract SOE coffee, you need to constantly adjust the parameters. This not only wastes coffee beans, but also cannot guarantee that stable SOE can be extracted every time. Therefore, FrontStreet Coffee does not provide SOE as a drink for the time being.

What is iced drip coffee?

Ice-drip coffee is extracted by using ice water to contact coffee powder drop by drop. It takes a long time, and the extraction is usually completed in 6-8 hours. Extraction with ice water for a long time will also cause more small molecular substances (such as floral aroma and acid) in the coffee powder to be extracted, while macromolecular substances (such as the bitterness of tannic acid) will be more difficult to extract. All iced drip coffee tastes rich and smooth, not bitter or astringent.

What coffee beans are used in iced drip coffee??

The coffee beans used in ice-drip coffee are single-origin coffee beans, and its production does not require too many single-origin coffee beans. Just follow personal preference. Currently, FrontStreet Coffee generally chooses medium-light roasted freshly roasted coffee beans when making ice-drip coffee. For example, Ethiopian coffee beans with bright citrus acidity and refreshing taste, Panama coffee beans with obvious floral aroma, or Costa Rica coffee beans with obvious fermentation are all available. Of course, because ice-drip coffee is drip coffee, it takes a little longer to make, so if you want to drink Front Street Coffee Coffee) requires a reservation two days in advance.

How to make iced drip coffee

1.The powder-to-liquid ratio used in FrontStreet Coffee's iced dripping is 1:10, that is, 60 grams of coffee powder extracts 600 ml of coffee liquid.

2.Place a circular filter paper at the bottom of the coffee cup, wet it with water and fit it to the wall of the cup, add 60g of ground coffee powder (the size of coarse sugar), and then smooth the surface of the coffee. You can also use the weight of the powder hammer to lightly press the powder layer to make the surface smooth.

3.Remember to put a piece of filter paper on the noodles. Because the tension of the filter paper can make the water evenly distributed, if there is no filter paper, long-term water droplets will make a pit in the powder bed.

4.Using ice water to "pre-soak" is actually similar to the steaming process in hand brewing, which can improve the extraction effect and the consistency of the finished product. Direct ice dripping may cause the powder layer to be unevenly moistened. Some of the coffee powder will be over-extracted while other parts of the coffee powder will not participate in the extraction.

5.Put a 1:1 mixture of ice and water into the water bottle, and adjust the regulating valve for about 10 seconds to make 7 drops of water.

6.
After making, pour the coffee liquid into a sealed glass bottle and put it in the refrigerator to ferment overnight, so that the flavors of the coffee can be blended together, making it taste better and easier to drink.
