"Boss, your bean pouring funnel looks quite special. Where did you buy it?"
“It’s just a bonus item that comes with the Aeropress.”

Only then did I remember that there was a dusty Aeropress in the corner of the front street. Its syringe-like appearance made it difficult for people to think that it was a brewing appliance. There is even a special Aeropress brewing competition, which makes people very curious, how can such a strange appliance make a cup of coffee?

AeroPress made its debut in 2005, and its inventor, Alan Adler, is a mechanical engineering lecturer at Stanford University. According to him, the idea of inventing AeroPress came from dissatisfaction with existing coffee appliances, so he immersed himself in studying the extraction principle. As inventors, turning ideals into reality is their strength. In two years, the nearly 70-year-old man created AeroPress.

The structure of the AeroPressThe AeroPress itself is a very interesting invention. It consists of three parts: the pot body, the piston, and the filter cover (requires filter paper or a filter screen). It can extract coffee of different roasts and grinds; the extraction principle is a combination of soaking single-origin coffee and pressurizing espresso coffee. In the early stage, the coffee powder is mixed with water and then soaked, and in the later stage, a piston is used for extraction, thereby obtaining a cup of coffee with full flavor.

How to brew with AeroPress:The Aeropress brewing method is divided into positive pressure and reverse pressure. For positive pressure, you first install the filter cover on the pot body, with the filter cover facing downwards. After the coffee powder is poured in and water is stirred and soaked, the piston is inserted for pressure extraction. However, when the positive pressure is filled with water, water will seep out of the filter cover, which leads to the birth of back-pressure brewing. For counter-pressure, assemble the piston and the pot body in advance, place the piston underneath to serve as the bottom, then pour in the coffee powder, stir and soak. After completion, cover the filter cap with the cup and turn it upside down for squeezing and extraction. This time we focus on explaining the back pressure, because Front Street believes that the uncertain factors caused by the back pressure will be much less, the extraction can be more stable, and friends can quickly get started and drink Aeropress coffee.

Preparation before brewingAeropress, coffee beans, hot water, strong and sturdy water bottle, stir stick, round filter paper

The coffee beans used this time are medium-roasted Front Street Papua New Guinea Bird of Paradise. The grinding degree is finer than that of Pour over(V60) coffee, and it has a 90% passing rate with a No. 20 standard sieve. Use 15g of coffee beans, 240ml of water, and the powder to water ratio is 1:16. The water temperature used by AeroPress does not need to be too high, it should be within the range of 90~93°C.① Press the piston into the kettle body and point the piston barrel downwards

② Pour in the ground coffee powder and timed brewing

③ Stir the coffee powder to thoroughly soak it

④ After one minute, cover the filter cover with soaked filter paper, place the cup upside down on top of the filter cover, hold the whole thing tightly and turn it over

⑤ Start to pressurize and extract the coffee liquid, which takes a total of 1 minute and 30 seconds.

The simple AeroPress coffee is ready! If you want to drink a pot of iced coffee in the summer, just reduce the ratio to 1:8~ The extracted coffee plus 100g of ice cubes can fully satisfy your summer enjoyment.
