Among all the coffee appliances, Front Street’s favorite is the French press. Why? Because its operation is very simple. It can easily brew a delicious cup of coffee without any rigorous water injection techniques or complex variable control. It is not too comfortable (the key is that it is very cheap).
But then again, Front Street found that most French press coffee making tutorials are about hot coffee making, and there are very few ice coffee making tutorials. In this hot weather, compared to the fragrant and delicious hot coffee, Front Street believes that everyone would like to have a refreshing cup of iced coffee to relieve the heat. so! Today Front Street will share how to use a French press to make a rich and delicious cup of iced coffee!

The French press coffee extraction method is immersion! There are two benefits of immersion extraction. The first is that it has a relatively high error tolerance rate. During the soaking process, when the concentration of coffee and liquid becomes consistent, the escape rate of substances in the coffee will slow down, so even if the parameters we use are extreme, we don’t have to worry too much about the problem of over-extraction of the coffee.

Accordingly, you can be bolder when choosing coffee beans. If you like a mellow taste, buy Front Street PWN Golden Mandheling; if you like a fruity wine aroma, try Front Street Strawberry Candy; if you want a rich fruity aroma, it is best to try Front Street Xizhao; if you are looking for a floral aroma, recommend Front Street Fruit Ding Ding Cooperative... Every coffee is very suitable for soaking in a French press.

The second is that there is no need for any rigorous water filling method. Making a good cup of coffee is as easy as making a cup of tea. We only need to set the parameters, then pour water and coffee powder into the pot for soaking. When the time is up, you can filter out a cup of delicious coffee.

If we want to use a French press to make a cup of rich iced coffee, we first need to use it to brew a pot of hot coffee with a higher concentration! Because the method of making iced coffee with a French press is the same as hand brewing, ice cubes are needed to quickly cool down.
The ice cubes will continue to melt during the process of cooling the coffee, which will dilute the concentration of the coffee. If the concentration of the filtered coffee we brew is not high enough, then after being diluted by the water melted by the ice cubes, the coffee will become bland and thin, and it will taste like a cup of coffee-flavored water. So we need to brew a pot of highly concentrated coffee to offset the dilution effect of the ice cubes.

In the same way as Pour over(V60) coffee, if we want to brew a cup of high-concentration coffee, all we need to do is adjust the parameters. The pink to water ratio is the main object of our adjustment.
By using less water for extraction, the coffee is more concentrated. But in order to prevent insufficient extraction, we also need to increase the water temperature, adjust the grinding fineness, or extend the extraction time, add stirring, etc. to improve the extraction efficiency.

Next, Front Street will share with you through practical operation how to use a French press to make a rich and delicious cup of iced coffee!
Brew and share
If you want to drink a cup of sweet and sour iced coffee on a hot summer day, Front Street recommends using some medium-light roasted and deeply fermented coffee beans to make it. For example, solarization, honey treatment, and anaerobic treatment. The coffee beans used in Front Street shared this time are the Front Street Boundary Manor and Xija in the bean list. The iced coffee made with it will have a very explosive juice flavor, with the flavor of grape, passion fruit, and apricot, which is very prominent! The extraction parameters are as follows:

Amount of powder used: 15g (adjust according to the size of your French press)
Pink to water ratio: 1:10
Grinding degree: 9 scale of Ek43, 85% sieving rate of No. 20 mesh, fine granulated sugar.
Extraction water temperature: 100°C
Soaking time: 9 minutes
The steps are as follows:
①: First, pour all the coffee powder and an appropriate amount of boiling water into the French press, and stir it with any tool for about 10 turns. Then start the timer and wait four minutes.

②: After four minutes, use any tool to press the coffee powder floating on the liquid surface into the water, and then wait again! The waiting time this time is five minutes.

③: After five minutes, we can cover the lid of the French press and push the filter to the coffee liquid level.

④: After completing the above steps, we take out a cup filled with ice cubes (the ice cubes used in Qian Street here are 120g), and then slowly pour the coffee onto the ice cubes. The purpose of this is to reduce the amount of fine powder poured out so that the taste will not be too rough.

When the coffee is almost poured, we finally take out any tool to stir the coffee, and then we can start enjoying the rich, delicious, refreshing and heat-relieving ice coffee~
