Panama Gesha Hand-brewed Coffee|Is the ratio of coffee powder to water for Pour over(V60) coffee always 1:15? What is the appropriate grinding degree for Pour over(V60) single-origin beans?

2026.10.20 FrontStreet Coffee 377

Hand-brewed coffee is a process of flavor extraction + filtration at the same time. The extraction takes place centered on the position where the water is poured. The key lies in how to control and balance. Front Street usually considers the grinding degree of coffee beans and the temperature of brewing water when adjusting the parameters of Pour over(V60) coffee. However, the ratio of powder to water is also very important. The amount of water during brewing affects the final flavor of the cup of coffee. Today, Front Street uses the well-known Geisha coffee beans to make a comparison. What should be the pink to water ratio to show the characteristics of Geisha coffee?

The beans used for the experiment on Front Street were Panama Emerald Estate Blue Label Geisha, with a roasting date of August 24 and a brewing date of August 31. When you see this, some people will ask, why not bake it on the day it is ready?hand flush. Front Street has always been a specialty of freshly baked goods.coffeeBeans, many people think that fresh coffee means freshly ground coffee, but in fact it is only half of the story.coffeeNot only do the beans have to be freshly ground and ready to drink, they also need to be fresh enough on the roasting date. Of course, it doesn’t mean that it’s fresher. As mentioned before, Front Street was carried out after 7 days.brew, freshly roasted coffee beans need a bean-raising period, about a week, so that they can be fully reflected when brewing.coffeeBean flavor.

Front Street chose four powder-to-water ratios, namely 1:15, 1:16, 1:17 and 1:18. Only the ratio of powder to water has been changed, and the grinding degree, water temperature and brewing method remain basically the same.

Front Street uses brewing parameters: V60 filter cup, 15 grams of powder volume, 90°C water temperature, and grinding degree (Chinese standard No. 20 sieve pass rate 80%).

研磨粗细b4

Front Street adopts a segmented extraction brewing method. The first time is to inject 30 grams of water (2 times the amount of powder) and steam for 30 seconds. The water is injected in a small water column from the center, and then slowly goes out. Although it is a small water column, please be careful not to deliberately slow down the circle speed, because once the circle speed is too slow, the water column will flow in one direction, so the powder layer will not be evenly fed.

In the second stage of water injection, a small water column is injected into the bottom of the powder layer. In order to allow the penetrating power of the water column to be concentrated, the range of the circle movement should be small, about the size of a one-yuan coin, and then circle out. At the beginning of the second water injection, pay attention to the amount of water and try not to exceed the height of the powder layer. The thicker powder layer on the edge of the filter paper will become heavier due to water draft, and will slip and become thinner as the water level drops. When the water level drops to half, the third water injection can be performed.

Starting from the third water injection, it is necessary to observe the extent of the water level drop. Also start from the center and feed water in a circle. The amount of water should not exceed the height of the powder layer. You can increase the amount of water appropriately to allow the deposited
coffeeThe particles all tumble, thereby dissolving out the soluble substances. When it reaches the set amount (for example, 1:15 powder-to-water ratio, 15 grams of powder, 225 grams of water), you can remove the filter cup.

Blue Label Geisha flavor: ginger floral, brown sugar, lemon, citrus, cream, lotus mist. The flavor is clear, the aroma is obvious, but the aftertaste is short.

Flavor comparison

The powder to water ratio is [1:15], the concentration of coffee is higher, and the flavor is concentrated. The extracted Blue Label Geisha can feel some obvious flavors, with a heavier tea taste, and the taste is the mellowest among the four cups.

With a pink to water ratio of [1:16], the extracted Blue Label Geisha will have a richer flavor than if you choose a pink to water ratio of [1:15].

With a powder-to-water ratio of [1:17], the extracted Blue Label Geisha tastes better both in terms of flavor and sweetness, with richer and clearer flavor levels.

The pink to water ratio is [1:18]. Although the extracted Blue Label Geisha has a strong ginger flower aroma and a relatively clear flavor, it lacks some layers and aftertaste, making it taste lighter.

Front Street recommends that if you are brewing coffee with rich flavors such as Gesha, you might as well try to increase the powder-to-water ratio. Try using the two powder-to-water ratios [1:16] and [1:17] to highlight the rich layers of Geisha.
