How to extract espresso coffee without an espresso machine at home? Many friends asked Front Street. have! The handsome looking Moka coffee pot is perfect. The Moka coffee pot generates pressure through high-temperature brewing and sucks water from the lower pot to the upper pot through the siphon principle. Due to the design, the amount of coffee brewed by the Moka pot is not much at a time. Through the siphon, the water cannot be completely sucked up and passed through the powder layer, so the coffee extracted is also quite rich.

Mocha coffee pot composition

The Moka pot is divided into three parts: the upper pot, the powder tank, and the lower seat. The lower pot is a sink that holds water, the powder trough is used to hold finer ground coffee powder, and the upper pot is used to hold the extracted coffee liquid.

Mocha coffee pot extraction principle

The principle of coffee extraction in a Moka pot is very simple. It uses the steam pressure generated in the lower pot. When the steam pressure is large enough to penetrate the coffee powder, it will push the hot water to the upper pot and brew rich coffee. The vapor pressure of boiling hot water is used to extract coffee that is close to the flavor of espresso. Front Street believes that this is the charming feature of the Moka coffee pot.

So how should we use a moka coffee pot to extract an espresso that is a milk coffee? The idea behind Front Street is:

1. Determine the amount of powder first, grind a finer Italian scale, press the powder to fill it up and see how many grams it is.

2. Determine the amount of water. It is difficult to determine the amount of water in the pot at first. You can only try it by estimating the amount of coffee liquid. For example, the amount of powder used in Front Street is 20g. If you want to make espresso with a powder-to-water ratio of 1:1.8, that means using 36 grams of coffee powder. When making the first test, use the water recommended by the Moka pot to boil one pot twice to see how much coffee liquid is actually produced. Add 100g of water and the coffee liquid that comes out is 60g, but we only need 36g of coffee liquid, so when making the next pot, you only need to put 100-(60-36) = 76g of water.

3. Fine-tuning the grinding degree. The ideal liquid dispensing state is that the coffee liquid flows out slowly and the pressure relief valve puffs slightly, but without screaming. If the coffee liquid flows too fast and the pressure relief valve does not spray, the powder is too coarse. If the coffee liquid flows slowly, the pressure relief valve screams and sprays, which means the powder is too fine.

4. When leaving the fire, turn off the heat when the liquid is stable (the liquid on both sides has formed a circle at the bottom). Pour out the small bubbles before they start to become larger. The longer it takes, the heavier the paste smell will be, and the grease will be blown away.

1. Pour pure water into the lower pot of the Moka pot until the water level is about 0.5cm below the pressure relief valve.

2. Choose a coffee grind that is slightly coarser than espresso. Gently tap the coffee powder to distribute it evenly. When the coffee powder is in the shape of a hill, use a cloth to make the surface of the coffee smooth.

3. Put the powder trough into the lower pot, tighten the upper and lower parts of the Moka pot and place it on the electric ceramic stove/stove to heat over high heat. Put the powder trough into the lower pot, tighten the upper and lower parts of the Moka pot and heat it on the electric ceramic stove over high heat. When the coffee liquid in the pot is halfway out, turn off the electric ceramic stove. The residual heat and pressure of the Moka pot will "push" the remaining coffee liquid into the upper pot.

4. When all the coffee liquid is extracted into the pot, you can pour it into a cup and taste it. The coffee extracted by the moka pot is very rich and can even extract crema. You can also mix it with an appropriate amount of water or milk for a better flavor.
