The Moka pot is a home-style coffee brewing appliance. It is loved by people because of its simple operation, convenience, and does not take up space. It has also attracted the attention of many newbies. Today, Front Street will introduce a tutorial on how to use the Moka pot through text and pictures, so that everyone can get started quickly.
What are the requirements for moka pot coffee beans?
Front Street also mentioned that the crema of espresso is actually composed of countless small carbon dioxide bubbles. Medium-dark roasted coffee beans contain enough carbon dioxide gas. Therefore, if you want to get an ideal cup of oil-rich Moka pot espresso, it is more appropriate to choose some medium-dark roasted coffee beans.

In order to achieve stable extraction with the Moka Pot, it is recommended to use dark roasted Front Street Classic Italian Blend Coffee. This is a recipe composed of three origins: Brazil, Indonesia, and Vietnam. Therefore, it has the caramel aroma of American coffee and the wild tonality of Asian coffee. It only highlights the mellow aroma of coffee to the greatest extent, and also allows everyone to easily extract rich and dense coffee oil. It is very suitable for making American style diluted with water or latte with milk. It can be purchased at Front Street Taobao store or Front Street Tmall flagship store.

Friends often ask FrontStreet Coffee about the appropriate grinding level for a Moka pot. Grinding that is too coarse will make the resistance of the powder cake too small, which will cause the hot water to penetrate too fast and cannot extract enough flavor substances, leading to the consequences of insufficient extraction; while grinding too fine will make the resistance too high, and the hot water will accumulate in the powder tank for a long time and cannot get out, which is not only easy to over-extract, but also creates the risk of explosion! ! !

Front Street suggested that the coffee powder particle size used in the Moka pot is between 0.3 mm and 0.55 mm, which is coarser than the coffee powder used in the espresso machine. For reference, the espresso coffee grinder used in Front Street has a flour-like grind. In order to prevent the above-mentioned splashing problem, the moka pot coffee powder needs to be coarser than the espresso coffee powder. As shown in the picture above, rub it with two fingers until it feels like fine salt particles.
What materials are needed to make coffee with a Moka pot?
The materials required to prepare the Moka pot include freshly ground coffee powder (Front Street’s classic Italian blend), water, Moka pot, and a heating source. Front Street uses a conventional electric ceramic stove here. You can also use an open-fire stove for home cooking, but remember to pay attention to fire safety.

Detailed instructions for using the Moka Pot
1. Add water: We first add an appropriate amount of hot water. Because hot water can shorten the time it takes to boil water, we can get a cup of moka pot coffee faster! (Front Street uses a double-portion single-valve Moka pot and injects 130ml)

2. Fill the coffee powder: Fill the appropriate amount of coffee powder into the powder trough, and then put 18g of the powder trough into the lower pot.

It should be noted that after pouring coffee powder into the powder trough, we'd better tap the powder trough gently. The purpose of this is to allow the coffee powder to naturally squeeze downwards, fill the gaps, and reduce the generation of channel effects. After filling, just use your fingers to smooth the surface of the coffee powder. Note that if the coffee powder used is too fine, it is best not to press it, because this will increase the resistance of the powder trough and make it more difficult for hot water to pass through.
3. Tighten the upper and lower pots: What needs to be noted in this step is that if the filling is hot water, it is best to use a wet rag for insulation to avoid burns.

4. Place it on the heating source and start cooking: There is not much to say about this. Just place the Moka Pot on a heating source that can conduct heat.

5. Turn to low heat and wait for the coffee liquid to seep out: When we cook until the Moka pot makes a clear sound, it means that the hot water is about to overflow with the coffee substance driven by the steam, so at this time we need to reduce the heat.
Otherwise, the fire will continuously produce water vapor and increase the pressure. Then the hot water will flow out faster due to the excessive pressure, and it will not be able to extract enough coffee substances. In the end, the taste of the entire coffee will become dull and light. Therefore, when the coffee liquid is about to overflow, it is best to reduce the heat.

6. Stop heating and wait for the extraction to be completed: When half of the coffee liquid has been released, we need to turn off the fire source, because the residual temperature in the Moka pot is enough to "urge" the remaining hot water out.

7. Tasting coffee: When the Moka pot stops dispensing liquid, we can pour out the coffee liquid and taste it!

If we feel a strong burnt and bitter taste when drinking moka pot coffee, it means that the extraction is over-extracted and we need to appropriately reduce the amount of extracted liquid. Just end the extraction early the next time we make it! If it tastes too sour and has some foreign smell, it is likely that the extraction is insufficient and the grinding can be adjusted. If the grinding is in a state that cannot be adjusted, then we can increase the extraction and slightly increase the amount of water in the Moka pot. After many attempts, you will know how to extract a delicious cup of moka pot coffee~
After brewing Moka pot coffee, you can drink it in many ways. The most basic way to drink it is to add water to American style. Sugar-free and dairy-free coffee is perfect as a reduced-fat coffee.
Of course, you can add fresh milk directly, and the taste will be close to the taste of latte in a coffee shop. If you want to add fresh milk, you need to heat the milk to about 60 to 65 degrees, which will create a perfect fusion of milk and coffee. In this way, a perfect cup of latte coffee is ready.

Of course, adding some ice cubes and condensed milk to imitate Vietnamese coffee is not a problem. Mix the espresso liquid into the condensed milk and add ice.

Front Street believes that everyone has different tastes, and you can add more coffee beans according to personal preference. Of course, you can also try other flavors of coffee beans, such as Front Street Basic Blend, Front Street Premium Blend 100% Arabica, and Front Street Commercial Blend. These can all be used to make espresso, and they have different flavors. The more you try, the more fun the coffee will bring you.
