Each region has a different way of drinking coffee, so the way of drinking coffee in some regions is more representative, resulting in a local culture, such as Turkish coffee and Italian coffee. When it comes to these coffees, you may already have that image in your mind. But when it comes to Americano coffee, everyone may hesitate for a moment, and then two scenarios will appear, one is made by a drip filter machine, and the other is black coffee concentrated in water.
Drip coffee is generally black coffee. As long as you don't add sugar or milk to it, it's a cup of black coffee. Just like Turkish coffee has a story with Turkey, American coffee also has a story with the United States. Otherwise, the word "American" cannot be explained.

"American coffee" (English: Americano, Italian: Caffè Americano) is a type of coffee and the most common coffee. It can be black coffee made with a drip coffee pot, or espresso made by adding a lot of water. But the Americano we often call is the latter.
It is said that during World War II, American soldiers went to the European continent to support the war. People in Europe are used to drinking espresso coffee with a concentrated flavor, but because the taste is too concentrated, Americans can't get used to it and can't even swallow it. So I diluted the espresso liquid with water and drank it, and continued this practice. Europeans sneered at this practice, so they named this coffee "Americano", which means American coffee. It should be noted that if you go to an Italian cafe and want to order a cup of Americano, you must add café in front of Americano. The same is true for latte. If you just say latte, you will probably only get a glass of milk.

Front Street Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee) How to make Americano coffee
The method of making American coffee is actually very simple. It is divided into two main steps. The first is to extract the espresso liquid, and the second is to mix the coffee liquid into water.
Although making American coffee is simple, it also tests the barista’s extraction skills. A good cup of Americano cannot be separated from its most basic thing, which is espresso. That is, the first major step is everything about this cup of Americano.

Depending on the beans used, the flavor of the final Americano coffee will be different. So what are the Americano coffee beans you recommend? A bean blend used in the Front Street store for making espresso is a blend of 70% Honduran sherry and 30% Ethiopian sun-dried red cherries.

Front Street Coffee (FrontStreet Coffee): Sunflower warm sun blended with coffee beans
Origin: Honduras & Ethiopia
Varieties: Kaduura, Kaduai, Pacas, local native species
Treatment method: Washing & Sun-drying
Seventy percent of Honduran sherry has been fermented in sherry whiskey barrels, providing this blended bean with a rich aroma of wine, while 30% of Ethiopian sun-dried red cherries bring the sour berry aroma to the coffee.
The part of making the base is closely related to the grinding degree, dosage, machine extraction pressure, water temperature, powder-to-liquid ratio and other factors of coffee powder. If the coffee is ground too coarsely, it will be easily under-extracted and taste sour; if it is ground too coarsely, it will be over-extracted and become bitter.

The filling step after loading the powder and cloth powder is also very important. To outsiders, this step is just a matter of pressing the coffee powder with a powder hammer. However, some friends who are very proud of their unicorn arms may use all their strength, and even risk the powder bowl being crushed, thinking that this is nothing compared to the 9 Pa pressure given by the machine. As everyone knows, this method of vigorously producing miracles will make the coffee powder cake too dense, and the gaps for water to pass through will be greatly reduced or even blocked, which will easily lead to over-extraction.

In addition, special attention should be paid to the force direction of the powder hammer must be perpendicular to the powder bowl, otherwise the powder cake will be pressed crookedly, resulting in uneven extraction.
When Front Street extracts espresso coffee, according to the capacity of the powder bowl used in Front Street stores, it can hold 20 grams of coffee powder. The extraction pressure of Front Street's espresso machine is about 9 Pa, the water temperature is 93 degrees Celsius, and 40 grams of coffee liquid can be extracted.
Front Street uses the Pegasus E98 espresso machine. Here are the extraction parameters:
Pressure: 9 bar±2
Temperature: 90.5~96°C
Time: 20~30 sec
Pink to water ratio: 1:1.7~1:2
Powder amount: 12g (single espresso) 20g (double espresso)
Extraction concentration volume: 20ml (single portion) 40ml (double portion)

After making the espresso liquid base, only the final step of adding water is left. However,American coffee ratioAnd how much?
The ratio of traditional Americano coffee to espresso liquid and water is 1:8, but this ratio is not suitable for all coffee beans. FrontStreet Coffee once conducted a comparative test between 1:8 and 1:6 and found that if the espresso made by FrontStreet using this blended bean is diluted with water at a ratio of 1:8, the final Americano coffee will have too weak flavor, too short aftertaste, and even taste too watery. And if the ratio is 1:6, it can highlight the taste and characteristics of the American coffee made by the Sunflower Warm Sun blend on Front Street: whiskey flavor and dark chocolate aftertaste, while having a good mellow feel.

How to drink Americano coffee?
When a cup of coffee is brought to you, Front Street recommends that you don’t drink it eagerly. It should be a process from shallow to deep, just like drinking tea or appreciating wine, in order to achieve the purpose of relaxing, refreshing and enjoying.
The first step is to smell the aroma and experience the aroma of freshly ground coffee;
The second step is to observe the color. It is best for freshly ground coffee to show a deep brown color, rather than being completely black and unfathomable;
The third step is to taste. Take a sip of coffee first and feel the taste of the original freshly ground coffee. The freshly ground coffee should be sweet, a little bitter, sour but not bitter. Then taste it in mouthfuls. Don't rush to swallow the coffee. Hold it in your mouth temporarily to allow the coffee, saliva and air to mix slightly before swallowing.

If you find it bitter, Front Street recommends adding your favorite flavor, such as spices, cinnamon, sugar or milk, or soda.

The difference between hot American and iced American
Because the higher the temperature, the more active the movement of molecules. So hot Americano coffee will be better in terms of aroma. However, iced American style has a refreshing feeling that hot American style does not have. If you want to enjoy the aroma and aftertaste of coffee, Front Street recommends choosing hot American coffee. If you want to cool down, then iced Americano is a good choice.
