Gesha Village Coffee Grade | What is the difference in flavor and taste between Ethiopian Gesha Village Gold Label and Red Label coffee?

2026.10.20 FrontStreet Coffee 525
In addition to the Red Label and Green Label Geishas of Emerald Manor, there is another group of slightly famous "labeled" Geishas on the blackboard on the front street. They are the Gold Label Geisha and Red Label Geisha from Gesha Village Estate in Ethiopia.

图片

Front Street has shared the grading system of Emerald Estate before, and also shared the horizontal comparison of Geisha Village from the two estates. However, because there is not much introduction about Gesha Village Gold Label and Red Label, there will always be friends who stop in front of the blackboard on Front Street and think about the difference between them.
So today Front Street will share with you the differences between Gesha Village’s Gold Label and Red Label, two of Gesha Village’s most popular products.

图片

Until then, here's what we need to know...
In addition to Gold Label and Red Label, Gesha Village Estate also has other grades of products such as Bidding, Green Label, and Chaka. And this set of standards, as most friends think, has some similarities with the grading system of Emerald Manor.

图片

As Front Street has introduced before, these so-called labels are not actually the original names of these products. But because the original names were too hard to pronounce, in order to communicate more easily, our Chinese people "colloquialized" their names - that is, naming them through the colors and varieties of their product logos.
For example, the origin of the name Gold Label Gesha is because the background color of the product's logo is gold, and the variety of coffee sold is Gesha, so the name Gold Label Geisha came into being. The same goes for other red and green labels, but it should be noted that behind the various labels in Geisha Village Estate, the varieties are not necessarily all Geisha.

The second is the geographical location and plot division of Gesha Village Estate. Gesha Village Estate is located in Ethiopiapanchi majiIn a local area called Gesha Village, it covers an area of about 471 hectares, with a coffee planting area of about 320 hectares and a planting density of 7,000 trees/hectare. The owner of the manor, Adam Overton, divided it into eight areas, and the coffee grown in each area will have a different flavor of the land.

So without further ado, let me share with you from Front Street, what is the difference between the gold label and the red label of Geisha Village Estate~

Geisha Village Gold Label Definition
Gold Label Geisha is the top coffee in Geisha Village except Bid Coffee. Its original name is「Rarities”, translated as “rare treasure”.Its output only accounts for about 10% of the annual output of Gesha Village Estate. It is relatively rare and has complete traceability. Due to its excellent flavor and complex and varied taste, many competitors use Gold Label Geisha as competition beans.
It is worth mentioning that although Gold Label Gesha is called Gesha, its variety is not the Panama Gesha variety that we have been told orally.(T2722), but "Geisha 1931」。
(The variety in the picture is Panama Geisha T2722, and the variety on the right is Geisha 1931)
图片

Gesha 1931 is a variety carefully selected by the owners of Gesha Village when they went to the forest where Gesha was discovered. It is very close to the Panamanian Gesha we know in terms of appearance and flavor.(T2722), so the owner of Gesha Village named it "Gesha 1931"(1931 was the year Gesha was recovered from the forest by expedition members)。

Definition of Gesha Village Red Label
The official name of Gesha Village Red Label is "Growers Reserve”, which translates to “growers’ reserve”.Geisha Village Red Label batches of coffee beans account for about 15% of Gesha Village’s annual output, which is higher than Gold Label. Likewise, it is a batch with complete traceability.

图片

Gesha Village Estate’s requirement for Red Label is that the cupping score exceeds 88 points. No matter what variety, as long as the score reaches the standard, it can be exported and sold as Red Label batches. Compared to Geisha Gold Label, which is closer to Panama in all aspects, the flavor of Geisha Village Red Label will be more inclined to Ethiopian local flavor.
The varieties of red label batches purchased from Front Street are:Gorgesha, it is also a variety found locally by the manor owner. Although it is called Gesha, its appearance and flavor basically have nothing to do with the Gesha we know.

图片

It just so happens that the Gexia Village Gold Label and Red Label currently sold by Front Street on Taobao Tmall are both sun-dried, which allows us to compare the difference between the two more intuitively. Therefore, Front Street will next compare the gold label and red label of Gesha Village to see how they taste different.

Brew and share
Since the roasting degree and processing of Front Street Gesha Village Gold Label and Front Street Gesha Village Red Label in the Front Street Bean List are the same, the parameters used are also the same, as follows:

Dry aroma:The dry fragrance of Gesha Village Red Label smells of very bright citrus fruits, which is very fresh and very pleasant; the dry fragrance of Gesha Village Gold Label has an aroma similar to honeysuckle based on citrus, and then there is some sweet aroma of apricot. Compared with the former, the aroma of Gesha Village Gold Label will be softer and richer.

图片

Flavor:The flavor of freshly brewed Gesha Village Red Label has very classic Ethiopian coffee aromas such as citrus, strawberry, mango, and pineapple. The overall acidity is bright, the taste is clean and smooth, and it has an aftertaste like green tangerine tea;
The flavor expression of Geisha Village Gold Label includes blueberry, honeydew melon, sweet cherry, and elegant white floral aroma. The overall acidity is soft, clean and elegant. After careful aftertaste, you can taste the fruit flavors such as citrus and mango, as well as the aftertaste of oolong tea, which is very comfortable.
