Iced coffee has been around for centuries, and the concept seems to have come from lands as far away as Vienna and France, so don't be ashamed if it's your first choice. Cold brew coffee has quickly made a name for itself over the past five years or so as it's become more accessible. The difference between cold brew coffee and iced coffee comes down to how it's made and the flavors produced by the process.

What is iced coffee?

Iced coffee has been around for a long time, but its popularity has never completely surpassed that of hot coffee. Iced coffee is exactly what it sounds like.  Simply pour cooled coffee over ice. Any desired flavors or creamers can be added, sometimes making it more like an iced latte than iced coffee, but the key is to keep it cool with plenty of ice.

Keep in mind that half of your cup may end up as ice, so the flavor of your coffee will change as the ice melts. If you're drinking iced coffee at home, you can top up the cup to make sure your ice doesn't melt as quickly.

What is cold brew coffee?

The benefits of cold brew come down to taste. Unless you stick to the mass-produced Starbucks or Dunkin' options, it's going to be different everywhere you go. One cold brew will never taste exactly like the next, but all cold brews tend to have similar characteristics—milder and sweeter. Coffee's reputation, its bitterness, is left behind with the heat. Some days call for a strong flavor, but when you just want to sip and relax, cold brew coffee has you covered.

The best cold brew should be able to be enjoyed without ice, but adding ice cubes to keep it cool during an extra-long day shouldn't ruin the flavor too much.

How to make cold brew coffee?

The difference between cold brew and iced coffee goes back to the process of making each type of coffee. It's a long process, but nothing overly complicated. We've discussed how to make iced coffee and cold brew coffee before, which can be found here .

Cold Brew What does it taste like?

Regular iced coffee is more acidic, which for most people results in the need for added creamer. Too much creamer is just a bunch of sugar and unnecessary calories. That’s not to say that some acidic coffees also have strong flavors, but that’s not for everyone.

Cold brew, on the other hand, tends to have a rich, smooth flavor. When done well, cold brew usually only requires a little milk (even if that's a bit much; cold brew black is another kind of magic). If you're trying to move away from creamer and move more in that direction, cold brew is a great way to get your taste buds used to black coffee.

Why is cold brew coffee so popular?

All cold coffee is a game changer, but it's also worth noting the culture surrounding cold brew. Stores seem to be competing for the cutest cold drink cans and cold drinks.

Regarding the difference between iced coffee and cold brew coffee, Front Street believes that each type of coffee has its own characteristics and is very delicious. As for which one tastes better, it all depends on personal taste. Because everyone’s taste is different, there is no absolute one that tastes better. For example: Mandheling coffee, some people like the traditional Chinese medicine flavor, but some don't; Kenyan coffee, some people like the sour, berry flavor, but some don't.
