In different European countries, iced coffee is also different! Some add ice cubes to hot coffee, some add ice cream to hot coffee, and there are also methods of soaking in cold water for extraction. For example, in the United States, the basic combination is: espresso + water + ice. This method has now become the most common American way of making ice in cafes around the world.

For example, in Italy, the basic combination is: espresso + ice cubes, then put into a shaker and shake to create foam in the coffee and enrich the taste of the entire drink; and in Germany, the basic combination is: espresso with extended extraction time + vanilla ice cream balls + cream + caramel sauce or chocolate chips. The deluxe version will also add some rum.

However, the above-mentioned methods of making iced coffee require the use of an espresso machine, which is not so convenient. So how can you make delicious iced coffee easily and conveniently at home? In this article, we will follow FrontStreet Coffee to learn how to make summer iced coffee with just a splash of cold water! !
cold brew/Cold brew coffee making
Compared with other coffees extracted with hot water, cold-water-soaked coffee has no heat to promote the movement of water molecules, and the bitter substances in coffee are difficult to release at low temperatures, so the taste of cold-brewed coffee will be cleaner and more refreshing. Long-term extraction also allows the good flavor substances in the coffee to be fully released, so the taste is very full.

Due to the long extraction time, the caffeine content of cold brew coffee will be higher than that of drip coffee and espresso coffee. Therefore, if you are in urgent need of refreshing, you can give priority to cold brew~
Cold brew coffee is so easy to make!
To make a home version of cold brew coffee, we recommend Front Street Guodingding Cooperative. This is a light-roasted bean that has been washed and produced in Ethiopia, which is well-known to everyone. No matter which form of extraction is used, it can always show the flavor of white flowers, citrus, green tea and cream. The taste is sour, sweet and fresh, so there are basically not many extraction thresholds, especially suitable for newcomers who are just getting started.

Powder to water ratio: 1:12 (1g powder, 12g water)
Water temperature: normal temperature
Utensils: cold brew pot
Soaking time: 12-16 hours
Cold brew (cold brew) coffee can be said to be the most hassle-free and least technically demanding method of making iced coffee. However, it takes a long time to make and cannot be drunk immediately. You can start soaking at dinner time, and you will be able to drink full and clean cold brew coffee when you wake up the next morning~
Since the cold brew pot used in Front Street Street has a capacity of 1L, 60g of coffee powder will be used for demonstration this time. You can increase or decrease the coffee powder according to the size of your cold brew pot. The proportion remains unchanged, but you must ensure that the coffee powder can be completely soaked after adding water.

Prepare a clean cold brew pot, pour the ground coffee powder into the filter of the cold brew pot, and then pour 720g of room temperature water into the coffee powder to fully moisten and soak it. Then close the lid of the filter part and finally the lid of the cold brew pot. Then put it in the refrigerator for low-temperature extraction for 12-16 hours~
At the end of the extraction, you need to lift the filter and place it next to the mouth of the pot to let the remaining coffee liquid drip. After the extraction is completed, pour out the coffee grounds and taste it. If you think 1:12 is too strong, you can make 1:13, or add ice cubes/water to dilute it when tasting.

Recommended coffee beans suitable for making iced drinks
[Front Street Ethiopian sun-dried red cherry coffee beans]
Medium to light roast, flavor: mixed berries, caramel, black tea, slight fruit fermentation aroma

Red cherry refers to the "Red Cherry Project" project launched by Dutch green beans producers in 2007. The project was established mainly to increase the purchase price of fully mature coffee cherries, thereby encouraging coffee farmers to only harvest mature coffee cherries with red outer peels.
The effect of this is not only to greatly improve the overall quality of coffee beans, but also because the sugar content of fully mature fruits will be higher. Therefore, after the whole fruit is sun-dried, the coffee beans can also obtain great sweetness and a slight sense of fermentation, giving the coffee a soft and smooth taste. It is one of the sweetest coffee beans in Ethiopia.
[Front Street Panama Alida Manor Sun-Dried Kaduai Coffee Beans]
Medium roast, flavors: peach, orange, raisin, caramel, green tea
Speaking of Alida Manor, the first thing that comes to mind may be the ASD slow-sun-dried Gesha coffee beans that the manor won in the 2019 Bop Competition. However, the manor not only grows Gesha variety coffee beans, but also grows the Caturakaduai variety, which is common in Central and South America, and the Typica variety, which has a clean and quiet flavor.

The biggest feature of this Elida Kaduai coffee bean is that it not only has the rich juice flavor brought by the terroir and sun-drying of the production area, but also has the clean characteristics of the Typica coffee bean itself, so the coffee tastes very smooth and full.
【Front Street Columbia Divide Estate Hija Coffee Beans】
Medium roast, flavor: grape, passion fruit, apricot preserves, citrus, fermented aroma
The Xija variety has attracted widespread attention because Anthony Douglas, the barista who won the 2022 WBC competition last year, chose Colombian Xija coffee beans in the competition.

Front Street Hija coffee (Sidra) is actually a laboratory variety, bred from the cross between Typica and Red Bourbon. Later, based on genetic comparison, it was found that Hija coffee has similar genes to Ethiopian native species. Therefore, some scholars speculate that Hija Sidra is a cross between an experimental research variety exported from Ethiopia and a local Bourbon coffee species in Ecuador.
The Xija variety of coffee beans has floral and fruity aromas comparable to those of Geisha, with flavors such as peach, citrus, grape, honey, moderate acidity, and a round taste. The point! Great value for money.
