Specialty coffee has transformed from an easy luxury to a daily spiritual food in people's lives (really spiritual food, hahaha), and ear-hanging coffee bags are indispensable. The portable ear-mounted filter bag eliminates the need to use complicated equipment to brew specialty coffee. There is no need to consider the grinding degree of the coffee beans or specific water filling methods. Open the ear-mounted filter bag and hang it on the cup. Injecting hot water can restore the joy of drinking Pour over(V60) coffee. Some people will thinkHanging ear coffeeThe bag lowers the value of specialty coffee. Front Street believes that there is no need to devalue it in this way.Hanging ear coffeeAfter all, if a kind of delicacy wants to be integrated into the public, it needs to develop a fast and convenient way.
When did ear-hanging coffee appear?
In 2001, Japan's UCC Ueshima Coffee invented the ear-hanging coffee bag, registered a patent, and then launched it on the market. In Japanese, it's called "a cup of drawn coffee." This is because its principle is to put the coffee powder in a non-woven fabric or tissue paper filter bag, with two paper plywood on the outside. When opened, it can be hung on a narrow-mouth cup. After brewing, you can directly pull it out to drink fragrant black coffee.

Advantages and Disadvantages of Ear-hung Coffee Bags
Advantages: The ear-mounted coffee pod is a super simple version of Pour over(V60) coffee. The structure is a coffee filter bag with "ears" containing a certain amount of pre-ground coffee powder. Eliminate the tedious operations such as grinding coffee powder and preparing paper filter cups for Pour over(V60) coffee, and go directly to brewing.

Disadvantages: It is convenient, but because the coffee powder is ground in advance, even if it is stored in an independent package and sealed, the aroma of the coffee cannot be preserved for a long time. Therefore, Front Street only sells ear-hung coffee bags that have been sold within 5 days and is recommended to be consumed within 30 days. Therefore, it is not recommended that you stock up on too many ear-hung coffee bags at one time. Secondly, due to the design of the ear-mounted filter bag, the powder layer cannot be evenly distributed, making it impossible to achieve even extraction when brewing with a filter cup, and the coffee flavor will be slightly inferior.
How many times can the hanging ear coffee be brewed?
FrontStreet Coffee believes that hanging coffee is similar to a simplified version of Pour over(V60) coffee. Like Pour over(V60) coffee, hanging coffee can only be brewed once, and the proportion must be controlled. If the proportion is too high (too much water is injected), the coffee will taste weak. Why? Because the substances that can be extracted from coffee beans only account for about 30% of the weight of the coffee beans, no matter how much water is injected, it will not make the coffee taste better.

As a coffee novice, how to choose ear-mounted coffee bags?
If you like to drink strong coffee every day, we recommend Front Street Brazilian Red Fruit Hanging Ear Coffee, which has a rich nutty flavor, the smoothness of peanut milk cream, no sourness, and a mellow taste. If you can tolerate sour coffee, I recommend the Ethiopian Yirgacheffe coffee from Front Street. It has the acidity of lemon, white floral aroma, bright acidity and refreshing taste. If you like something with a special flavor, we recommend Front Street Honduran Sherry Hanging Coffee, which has a rich whiskey aroma and smooth vanilla cream, low acidity, and a full taste.
How to brew ear-mounted coffee pods?
The set amount of coffee powder for each bag of Front Street hanging coffee is 10g. It is recommended to brew with a powder to water ratio of 1:15, that is, one bag of hanging coffee is poured into 150g of hot water.
1. Tear open the outer packaging bag, take out the ear-hanging bag inside, tear open the opening of the ear-hanging bag, hang the small ears on both sides on the cup (the diameter of the cup mouth should not be too large, otherwise it will not hang~) and prepare 15 times the amount of water.

2. The brewing method of hanging ear coffee is actually the same as that of Pour over(V60) coffee, but it is not as rigorous as Pour over(V60) coffee, but basically the water temperature and steaming are still required. Please refer to the following parameters for brewing FrontStreet Coffee: water temperature is 90°C, steaming for about 10 seconds, and the amount of steaming water is consistent with the coffee powder.
3. Wait for the coffee powder to sink slightly, then inject the second stage of water until the ear-hanging bag is nearly 80% full, then let the coffee liquid slowly filter, repeat the second stage of water filling until the ear-hanging bag is 80% full, and finally wait until the coffee liquid is completely filtered and you can enjoy it.
What should you pay attention to when brewing ear-mounted coffee?
Similar to Pour over(V60) coffee, the taste of hanging ear coffee depends on the coffee beans. Different producing areas have different flavor tones. The difference is that the coffee powder for hanging ears has been ground in advance, so the aroma is not as rich as that of freshly ground coffee. If left for too long, the coffee powder will have aged, and a "woody smell" will appear. After the coffee beans are ground into powder, the contact area with the air is larger, and the gas and aroma substances in the body will be lost at an accelerated rate, which means that the tasting period will be shortened. The aroma of the brewed coffee will not be so rich, and it will taste a little tasteless. Therefore, when we buy hanging ear coffee, we need to pay attention to the freshness of the coffee and drink it as soon as possible after purchase, so that we can drink coffee with a fuller aroma.

The temperature of the brewing water is also critical. Usually, it is best to control the water temperature for hand brewing between 86 and 93 degrees Celsius. If the water temperature is too low, the coffee extraction efficiency will be slow, and insufficient extraction may occur. If you can't raise the water temperature, lengthen the contact time between the coffee grounds and hot water, which means soaking it longer.

The amount of water injected and the size of the flow can also change the concentration of the ear-hanging coffee. Front Street recommends controlling the ratio of powder to water to 1:15, and then adjusting it up or down according to your preferred concentration. In addition, if the water flow injected is too fast, the extraction time of the coffee powder will be short, and the coffee taste will tend to be light. Therefore, it is best to use a small and steady water flow throughout the process to make the extraction of the powder layer more uniform.
