I believe that many coffee lovers will unlock more coffee appliances at home in addition to hand-made coffee. Today Front Street will teach you how to use a Moka pot.
As usual, let’s first understand the historical background of the Moka Pot: The Moka Pot was first invented in 1933 by Italian engineer Alfonso Bialetti. This is a coffee extraction machine that occupies a small area, is cheap, and does not require too much maintenance. It is convenient and fast. It is a traditional Italian home brewing appliance and is known to be a must-have for Italian hot households.
The moka pot is actually a miniature espresso machine, and the extraction process is very magical. Since the water is heated in a (mostly) sealed environment, a lot of pressure is created. This pressure sprays water vapor into the upper pot for the purpose of extraction. This pressurized brewing technology produces very strong coffee. In fact, it's usually more than twice as strong as regular coffee, with a coffee to water ratio of around 1:7 (usually, coffee has a ratio of about 1:16).

So how can we make the coffee extracted from the Moka pot less bitter?
Bitterness in coffee is a common problem with many brewing methods, and the most common cause is over-extraction. Over-extracting coffee means the grounds are exposed to too much hot water or brewed for too long, resulting in a loss of flavor.
1. Use a coarser grind than your espresso machine
2. Gently shake the coffee filter basket to distribute the coffee powder more evenly.
3. When the coffee reaches about 80% of the spout (or looks like golden honey), remove it from the heat and place it directly on a cold towel. Rapid cooling helps prevent over-extracted bitter liquid from flowing into the coffee~
4. Add hot water, which will reduce the time the Moka Pot is on the stove.

Now Front Street will take you to make mocha coffee together
Step 1: For a moka pot that serves four people, you need to grind more than 18 grams of coffee powder. The optimal grind size for moka pot coffee is medium to medium-fine, which is coarser than an espresso machine but finer than a drip coffee machine.

Step 2: Fill the lower pot of the Moka pot with water until it is flush with the valve, about 250 grams. Place the funnel (coffee powder container) into the lower pot.

Step 3: Fill the funnel with ground coffee and wipe the edges of the funnel clean.
Step 4: Tighten the moka pot.

Step 5: Place the moka pot on the stove and heat over medium heat. If using a gas stove, make sure the flame is no larger than the bottom of the pot to avoid heating the handle.

Step 6: As the water in the bottom chamber approaches boiling, pressure will push a steady stream of coffee into the upper chamber. You'll know it's done when you hear a hissing, gurgling sound. Immediately remove the moka pot from the heat. Allow the coffee to flow completely into the upper chamber, then carefully pour the coffee. A cup of delicious coffee is all it takes~

Maintenance of the moka pot is also very simple, all you have to do is disassemble the components, rinse and dry with a towel.
When using a Moka pot, it’s important to choose your preferred roasting level.

Many people tend to choose darker roastscoffee beansComes with a moka pot. Dark or medium-dark roasts are often used in espresso beverages because they provide rich, deep flavor and stand up to the pressurized extraction process.

Recommend Front Street Golden Mandheling dark roast, rich and smooth. Because the Moka Pot is also known as a stovetop espresso machine, it means that medium to dark roasts will better highlight the extraction style, rich chocolate and nutty flavors, low acidity, and thick taste. However, it is worth noting that since light roasted coffee has higher acidity, try to avoid using them in a Moka pot, as uneven extraction is prone to occur.
