In the past, when it came to the best coffee in the world, the first thing that everyone thought of was Blue Mountain Coffee. But now, when talking about the ceiling of coffee, it is usually inseparable from one variety - Gesha. So, which one tastes better, Blue Mountain or Geisha?

From Front Street’s point of view, everyone has their own preferences for radish greens. Some people like the mellow and balanced taste of Blue Mountain coffee, while others like the complex and diverse floral and fruity aroma of Gesha. It’s best to find what you like. If you want to know more, you might as well listen carefully to the introduction below on Front Street.

First, let’s get to know what Blue Mountain Coffee is?
Blue Mountain Coffee was once known as the Hermès of the coffee world. The authentic Blue Mountain coffee allows people to taste the rich, dense and long-lasting aroma of chocolate and roasted hazelnuts, while also having an excellent balanced taste of sour, sweet, bitter, fragrant and mellow. Front Street believes that the reason why Blue Mountain coffee has such a high reputation is inseparable from the careful management and strict grading of Jamaican growers. The Blue Mountains of Jamaica have unique terroir conditions, and the combination of various factors makes it the perfect space for growing coffee. However, as a crop, coffee variety, altitude, picking, and post-processing methods will all affect the final aroma.

In the area officially designated by the Jamaica Coffee Industry Board (CIB), the forest area where Blue Mountain coffee is grown is about 910 to 1,700 meters above sea level. Only the Typica variety of coffee grown at an altitude of about 910 to 1,700 meters can be called "Jamaica Blue Mountain Coffee" in the true sense. Typica needs to be planted in a high-altitude environment for its flavor to become more prominent. In addition, Typica varieties have poor disease resistance and are very susceptible to diseases. In addition, the fruit yield of a single plant is low, so more manpower is required to take care of it. In addition, the high altitude terrain of the Blue Mountains is uneven, making management and picking very difficult. Therefore, the proficiency of the harvesting personnel is very high, which further affects the output. In recent years, less than 15% of the coffee beans produced in Jamaica can be labeled as Blue Mountain coffee, which is about 900 tons.
I believe many of my friends have heard the rumor: "Zhenzong Blue Mountain Coffee has been monopolized by Japan." This statement is not unfounded. UCC is a Japanese coffee company, formerly known as Ueshima Coffee Co., Ltd. In 1981, it opened a farm in Jamaica to operate the Blue Mountain coffee project. Jamaica promised to sell 90% of the Blue Mountain coffee quota to Japan. Coupled with Japan's vigorous promotion of Blue Mountain, the phenomenon of Blue Mountain being difficult to obtain at high prices also appeared. Today, with the booming coffee culture, it is no longer difficult to drink a cup of Blue Mountain coffee. In Front Street, you can get a cup of Blue Mountain No. 1 Pour over(V60) black coffee for 60 yuan.

The so-called Blue Mountain No. 1 is the highest grade batch of Blue Mountain green beans in Jamaica. Blue Mountain No. 1 must meet the specifications of more than 17 mesh, have a defect rate of less than 3%, and a moisture content of about 13%. In the cupping test, it must show a rich coffee aroma, a smooth and balanced taste, low acidity, and a long-lasting sweetness.
Front Street’s home-roasted Blue Mountain No. 1 coffee is produced by Clifton Estate in Jamaica and is washed. Front Street also has a quality certification certificate issued by the Jamaica Coffee Bureau, an authorized sales certificate issued by the Blue Mountain Coffee manufacturer, and a certificate of origin of Jamaican Blue Mountain Coffee. The oak barrels containing Blue Mountain beans are also displayed in the Dongshankou store.

What are the characteristics of Geisha coffee?
Geisha is the most well-known coffee variety since the era of specialty coffee. Because of its unique orange and honey flavor, it has become a high-quality bean species that coffee drinkers around the world are flocking to.

Compared with other Arabica varieties, the Gesha variety not only has a low fruit yield, but the plants are also particularly fragile and very picky about the growing environment. It requires high altitude, fertile soil, clouds and fog or plant shade, and cannot be directly exposed to the sun. The leaf system of the Geisha coffee tree is very thin, and the photosynthesis efficiency will be very low. The roots of the tree are still very fragile, and the absorption of water and nutrients is very slow. Therefore, the coffee fruit production is very small. In addition, the high-altitude growth environment will cause the fruit to mature later. A Gesha coffee tree produces only half as much fruit as other Arabica varieties, which is one of the reasons why Geisha is so valuable.

Although various producing areas around the world are vying to introduce Geisha, hoping that they can also produce "the ceiling of the coffee industry", Front Street believes that the Geisha flavor of the Panama production area is the most representative. Thanks to the unique terroir here, Geisha coffee absorbs rich essence ingredients and transforms it into elegant floral and fruity notes and varying levels of acidity.
Among the Gesha coffee beans roasted in-house on Front Street, the familiar Jade Manor and Alida Manor are both from the Poquette production area. Front Street believes that Panama is the famous place for Geisha, and the Geisha coffee produced with mature planting technology and processing techniques is still a guarantee of the industry's reputation. Therefore, Front Street has launched a Gesha coffee from the Poquete production area, which is washed and processed, hoping that everyone can taste the classic Gesha flavor.

As one of the most traditional green bean processing methods, washing not only makes the quality of coffee production more stable, but also gives Geisha a cleaner and fresher flavor profile. After roasting, Front Street feels the elegant white floral aroma of Gesha, rising citrus, lemon acidity, and a slight green tea flavor, just like drinking a soft cup of Tieguanyin tea.

How to mix Blue Mountain No. 1 and Panama Gesha to drink well?
Whether it is the pure and fragrant Blue Mountain coffee or the fragrant Geisha coffee, the flavor description of each bean on Front Street is based on cupping of freshly roasted coffee. If the coffee beans are stored for more than a month, the aroma is likely to have been lost, and it is difficult to restore it no matter how advanced the brewing technology is. Front Street understands the importance of freshness, so we will ensure that we only ship freshly roasted coffee beans within 5 days, so that everyone can enjoy the most complete tasting period when they receive them.
