冷萃咖啡保存

When summer comes, many people always have cold brew at home. But for cold brew to taste good, it’s not just as simple as “beans + water + refrigerator” – the grinding degree of the beans, the preservation method, and the storage after extraction, every step affects the final flavor. This article explains the key points of preserving and using cold brew beans in one go.

Grinding degree: slightly coarser than hand grinding

The grinding size for cold brew is recommended to be slightly coarser than hand brewing, close to the granular texture of coarse sugar. If the grind is too fine, it will be over-extracted and the product will be astringent if soaked for a long time; if the grind is too coarse, the flavor will not be fully released and the drink will taste bland.

If you buy whole beans and grind them freshly before each cold brew, the flavor will be much better than grinding the beans in advance. If you don’t have a grinder, you can purchase powdered version, but be sure to keep it sealed and use it up as soon as possible.

Daily preservation of beans

The storage principles for cold brew beans (actually all coffee beans): avoid light, seal, and stay at room temperature or refrigerated. After opening, put the beans into a sealed can with a one-way valve, put it in a cool place, and try to finish it within a month. Cover the beans tightly every time after taking them out to avoid moisture and odor transfer.

It is not recommended to store beans in the refrigerator for a long time - if you take them in and out frequently, the temperature difference and moisture will damage the flavor. If you buy a lot at one time, you can seal it in small portions and drink one pack at a time.

Cold extract storage time

The soaked cold extract can generally be stored in a sealed refrigerator for 3-5 days. The flavor decay will be obvious in the first two days. It is recommended to drink it within 48 hours for good taste. Divide into small bottles and take as much as you drink, avoiding opening the cap repeatedly.

If you want the flavor to be stable, you can brew two or three bottles at a time, mark the dates, and drink them in order. When you go home in the summer and take out a bottle of ice-cold brew from the refrigerator, it is better than any other drink to relieve the heat.

Get these three things right: grinding, sealing, and packaging, and your cold brew will be stable and delicious all summer long.
