Although the flavor of hanging ear coffee is far inferior to that of freshly ground Pour over(V60) coffee, convenience is their main priority! It eliminates a series of tedious operations such as grinding, weighting, and techniques for Pour over(V60) coffee. You only need to open it and fill it with water! You can quickly get a cup of coffee.
But what some friends don't know is that making good hanging ear coffee also requires attention to some details. It is not just pouring water into it to make a qualified cup of coffee. If you accidentally add too much water, it will easily cause the coffee to be diluted! Therefore, Front Street will share today how to get delicious hanging ear coffee in the simplest way!
How to brew delicious coffee easily
First of all, we need to know that there is not much difference in the brewing essence between hanging ear coffee and Pour over(V60) coffee. It is just that the hanging ear will prepare everything for you, saving you a lot of time and energy. Therefore, our thinking when purchasing is the same as hand brewing. People who are afraid of bitterness should buy medium-light roasted Arabica coffee with floral and fruity flavor. The first choices are Front Street Guoding Ding, Front Street Oiran, and Front Street Yirgacheffe;

Friends who don’t like sour taste can choose Arabica coffee with dark roasting degree and nutty caramel flavor. We recommend Front Street Brazilian Seasonal Coffee, Front Street Mandheling Coffee, Front Street Blue Mountain No. 1 Coffee…

Then what we need to pay attention to is the "part parameters" of Pour over(V60) coffee, and apply them to the hanging ear coffee for brewing.

There are four points that you need to pay attention to when making Pour over(V60) coffee: grinding, proportion, water temperature, and brewing method. As mentioned at the beginning, grinding is something we don’t need to worry about ~ because the merchant will grind the coffee beans in advance and put them into the ear-hanging bag. So, what we need to worry about a little bit are the remaining three parameters.
Generally speaking, Front Street does not recommend brewing directly with boiling water, as this can easily extract the bitter and over-extracted flavor. We can refer to the water temperature parameters of hand brewing: for the hanging bag of medium and light roasted beans, the temperature range is between 90 and 93°C; for the hanging bag of medium and dark roasted beans, the temperature is in the range of 85 and 90°C.

In the absence of a thermometer, a 300ml pot of boiling hot water will lose temperature at a rate of about 2~3°C per minute, so you only need to boil the water and wait until it reaches the corresponding range.
Secondly, there is the cup used! It is best to use a "tall cup" with a capacity of more than 280ml for the brewing ear. Because this can effectively prevent the ear-mounted bag from being soaked in water for a long time! If the cup used is shorter, the hot water will easily submerge half of the ear bag during the brewing process. Long-term soaking can also easily extract the bitter over-extracted taste!

The reason why a tall cup of more than 280ml is used is because the common coffee powder capacity of ear-hanging bags is about 10g. Take 10g as an example. If you want to get coffee with a suitable concentration, its powder-to-water ratio must be roughly the same as Pour over(V60) coffee. However, due to the portability of not using an electronic scale, we can control its range to a slightly larger range.
For example, the ratio of powder to water used in Front Street hand brewing is 1:15, so it would be more reasonable to control the ratio of hanging ear coffee to 1:14~1:17, which is about 140ml~170ml when converted. In a tall cup with a large capacity, it will only be at a half-high position, so there is no need to worry about soaking the ear-hanging bag.
Brewing Tutorial~
Okay, after everything is ready, we can start brewing!
1. Place the cup, open the ear-hanging bag, take out the ear-hanging bag, tear off the seal, and hang it on the mouth of the cup!

2. After the hot water reaches the predetermined range, inject it towards the center of the ear-mounted bag until the water level reaches half of the ear-mounted bag, then steam for 10 to 15 seconds. (The coffee powder in the ear-hanging bag does not have too much gas, so it does not need to be steamed for too long)

3. Fill the ear-hanging bag with water for the second time, this time until the dripping filter is completed, and then fill it for the third time, again until the dripping filter is completed, and then pour hot water for the fourth time, still at ninety percent full.

4. After drip filtering is completed, you can remove the ear-hanging bag and enjoy your coffee~

(If you feel it is too strong, you can add a small amount of hot water to it to adjust the concentration to suit your taste~)
