Do you need to soak the ear-hanging coffee? Yes, but do not directly soak the ear-hung coffee bag in water like a tea bag. In this article, Front Street Coffee will talk to you about how to brew a cup of fragrant coffee.
Different from instant coffee, ear-hanging bags are made by grinding freshly roasted coffee beans into powder of suitable thickness, then putting them into non-woven filter bags and packaging them into an independent package, which is easy to carry and store.

Since the coffee beans are directly ground into fine particles, these particles cannot be directly dissolved in water! Therefore, when brewing ear-mounted coffee, you cannot directly pour the coffee particles inside into the cup. In addition, substances in coffee particles dissolve faster in hot water than tea bags, so the ear-hanging bag cannot be soaked directly in water to prevent over-extraction of some coffee particles, resulting in a bitter taste in the coffee.
The production principle of hanging coffee is similar to that of Pour over(V60) coffee. The coffee beans are ground into powder, hung on the cup, and then brewed. Therefore, when brewing coffee with hanging ears, you need a non-woven bag as a filtering tool. Tear off the dotted line on the filter bag, then gently pull apart the hanging ears on both sides, and hang them evenly on the mouth of the cup. Then pour hot water into the coffee powder in the bag and extract the coffee liquid.

The purpose of the invention of hanging ears is for convenience. There is some difference in flavor from freshly brewed hand brewing, so the brewing process does not necessarily need to be very strict. But if you want hanging ear coffee to have a fragrant taste, these points are also very important! !
1. Choose hanging ear coffee made from freshly roasted coffee beans
Whether you are buying raw coffee beans or hanging coffee, fresh roasting is an important factor in the performance of coffee aroma. After the coffee beans are roasted, there will be carbon dioxide in the body to lock the aroma and flavor. However, as the time after roasting is completed, the flavor will gradually be lost with the release of carbon dioxide due to the hanging and grinding.

All the original coffee beans and hanging ear coffee currently sold by Front Street Coffee are shipped within 5 days after the roasting is completed, and 100% of the coffee is freshly roasted. The production of ear-mounted coffee bags is based on the fact that after the coffee beans are roasted and dissipated, they are ground, packaged and packaged to lock in the original taste of the coffee as quickly as possible.
Regarding the choice of coffee beans, Front Street usually recommends the store's ration type. If you usually like coffee with a light and fruity aroma, the barista will recommend purchasing Front Street Sun-dried Oiran Hanging Er. The brewed black coffee has elegant light floral aroma, strawberry, citrus, and mango tones, and is soft and sweet in the mouth. For those who like strong coffee, it is recommended that you choose dark roasted golden Mandheling coffee with spices, herbs, and caramel flavors. It is mellow and smooth, with the sweet aroma of dark chocolate.

2. Purchase in small quantities to ensure the freshness of hanging ear coffee
Generally speaking, the best tasting period of hanging ear coffee is 30 days, and there are 10 small bags in one package (10g each). Therefore, Front Street Coffee does not recommend that you buy large quantities of hanging ear coffee. Try to finish one pack before buying the next one to ensure the freshness of the hanging ear coffee.

Illustration of the correct way to brew ear-mounted coffee
The emergence of ear-hanging coffee pods is for simplicity and convenience, so we only need to pay attention to the water temperature and the amount of water filled! Water temperature is a factor that must be paid attention to when brewing any form of coffee beans.
Many friends are accustomed to brewing directly with hot water from the water dispenser. The temperature of the hot water from the water dispenser generally does not exceed 75 degrees Celsius. The hanging ear coffee brewed at this temperature will appear bland and tasteless. Therefore, Front Street recommends boiling the water when brewing the hanging ear. The boiling water should be allowed to stand for about 2-3 minutes. When the water temperature is about 88-91 degrees, the hanging ear coffee can be brewed.

The net content of a pack of independently packaged hanging coffee from Front Street Coffee is 10g. Based on the optimal ratio of powder to water for Pour over(V60) coffee of 1:15, a pack of hanging coffee can be injected with 150g of hot water and extract about 140g of coffee liquid.
①First tear open the coffee bag with hanging ears and hang it on the cup.

② Pick up a kettle with a temperature of 88-91 degrees Celsius, pour the first section of hot water into the middle of the ear-mounted filter bag, fill it to 1/2 of the entire filter bag, and wait for 15 seconds. This is a pre-soaking process, used to release the carbon dioxide in the coffee particles to ensure stable extraction later.

Then continue to pour hot water into the second section until the entire filter bag is 90% full. Stop filling at the approximate position where the small card strip on the top of the filter bag is touched.
④After all the coffee liquid flows into the cup, continue pouring hot water into the third section until the entire filter bag is 90% full and stop filling.

⑤After all the coffee liquid flows into the cup, continue pouring hot water into the fourth section until the filter bag is 90% full. After the coffee liquid flows into the cup, you can remove the ear-mounted filter bag.
⑥ There are 4 stages of water injection in total. The first stage is filled to 1/2, and the remaining three stages are filled to 9 minutes after the coffee liquid has completely flowed out. Front Street has tested it several times. If water is injected in this way, the total amount of water injected is basically around 150ml.
