Everyone! Place! week! Know! ! In espresso, the combination of milk and coffee has an extremely rich way of drinking it. You only need to slightly change the method or parameters. There are countless ways to drink milk and coffee alone. Familiar ones include latte, kabob, Australian white, piccolo, cortado, macchiato and so on.
On the other hand, when looking at the combination of water and coffee, the only thing that people can think of is Americano coffee. Compared with the milk coffee series, it seems a bit monotonous... Actually, American coffee also has a very "flowery" way to drink it! Front Street has recently shared many different Americano coffee recipes. Although they are all called Americano coffee, their taste and texture are very different from regular Americano coffee!

So today, Front Street is here to share with you some fancy ways to drink American coffee! When you are tired of drinking regular American coffee, you might as well try these drinking methods and you may gain a pretty good experience~
1. All-ice American style
The All-Iced Americano is a favorite way of drinking for many coffee gourmets. What is an All-Iced Americano? It's an American-style ice cream without adding water, just ice cubes and concentrate.

We all know that the conventional method of Americano coffee is water and concentration. Water is used to dilute the concentration of concentration, thereby reducing the difficulty of entrance. However, for some friends with heavier taste preferences, the concentration of Americano coffee is a bit too low, and it tastes boring and unenjoyable. If you drink it directly from concentrate, the concentration is too high and it is hot, so it is not very good to drink. The all-ice American style perfectly balances the problem that the concentration of the American style is too low and the concentration is not easy to drink.
Because no water is added, the coffee retains a higher concentration, but at the same time, because the ice cubes in the cup will melt, it will cool down and dilute the coffee. The taste and concentration of the coffee will not be as strong as the concentrated coffee.

Not only that! The all-ice American style also has a very rich sense of layering. Because the ice cubes continue to melt, the flavor and strength of the coffee will continue to change over time. If you drink it for a long time, you can obviously feel that the coffee is constantly changing, from strong to light, from concentrated to distinct taste, which is very interesting.
Interested friends can give it a try. The method is just as described on the front street, it is super simple. Just pour the espresso into the prepared ice cubes. For detailed instructions, please refer to this article "All-Ice American Style". However, it is worth noting that the All-Iced Americano is not recommended to be served with a straw. It is best served in a short cup, which allows us to enjoy the changes in coffee levels more fully.

2/3, American style of quicksand ice/hot American style of latte art
These two are the recipes that are often shared on the front street, the American style of smooth ice and the hot American style of latte art. Although they look like two completely different products, in fact, they have a lot in common.
Whether it's ice cream or latte art, they all need to inject air to create foam. The existence of foam can bring two changes to a cup of coffee: first, it can have a more beautiful appearance, and the second is to change the taste of the coffee.
(The process of using a French press to create coffee foam)

Quicksand Ice Americano is called "Quicksand" because the foamy Ice Americano poured into a clear glass creates a phenomenon similar to "quicksand". Because the foam is light and the coffee liquid is heavy, when coffee with foam is poured into a cup, the foam will rise quickly and the coffee liquid will sink. Since there is a certain color difference between the two, it looks like quicksand, hence the name "quicksand";

The American style latte art also makes use of the difference between foam and coffee liquid to realize the use of foam to imitate milk on the coffee liquid to create latte art patterns.
Because the coffee increases the presence of foam, both cups of coffee have a dense touch that is not found in regular American coffee, and at the same time, it tastes mellower and smoother. But relatively speaking, they are not as light as regular American drinks. It can only be said that each has its own advantages.
(The upper right of the picture shows the hot American latte art)

So if you want the American style to have a thicker taste, you might as well try the smooth ice American style and latte art hot American style.

4. American style with milk
This drinking method is a bit niche compared to the first two, but only compared to the first two, overall it is still relatively common. The method of adding milk to the American style is as its name suggests. Before tasting the American style, add a certain amount of milk to the cup, stir evenly, and then start tasting it.

By adding milk, the coffee will have a higher sweetness, the taste will become softer, and it will not be as exciting as drinking American coffee. At the same time, its taste will also become smoother, and it will not taste as sweet as a latte. But the specific disadvantage is that you can't taste the pure coffee flavor. But compared to the taste of coffee, what we need to pay more attention to is our experience. So if you don’t want to drink coffee that’s too bitter and don’t want to drink coffee with a lot of milk, Front Street believes that the American style with milk would be a good choice.
Again, it's very simple to make, but you need to slightly change the ratio of coffee liquid to water to prevent the coffee from tasting too weak.

Take Front Street as an example. The coffee beans used by Front Street are the Front Street Italian-style Front Street Classic Blend in the bean list. This is a medium-dark roasted blend. During extraction, Front Street usually uses 18~20g of coffee powder to extract 35~40ml of coffee liquid, and then uses a 1:4 ratio to mix it with about 160ml of hot water to make an American. The hot American made in this way is moderate in concentration, fragrant and mellow, and has a sweet aftertaste.
If you want to add milk to the American style, Front Street will adjust the ratio to 1:3.5~3.8. For 40ml of coffee liquid, about 150ml of hot water will be added to make the American style. Then add 20~30ml of milk to the American style, so that you can have a good effect in terms of the concentration, taste, and aroma of the coffee.

5. Long Black
There is also a variant of Americano and the "enemy" of Americano - Long Black. In the article "Why Long Black is Rarely Seen in China", Front Street mentioned that many friends mistakenly believe that the difference between Long Black and Americano is only the order in which water and espresso are poured in, but in fact, it is more than that.
In addition to the different order in which the espresso is poured, there is also a difference in concentration between Long Black and Americano. The reason is that Long Black uses a larger proportion of coffee and water.
(The picture on the left is Long Black, the picture on the right is Americano coffee)

Long Black, like Australian White, is a localized and improved product after Italian coffee entered Australia. Because Australians prefer "strong" and drink the "essence" of coffee directly, they increase the concentration of coffee by reducing the amount of water added to Americano coffee to ensure that they can directly taste the fragrant coffee flavor.
At the same time, in order to allow people to drink the aroma provided by Crema in the first sip, Long Black will be produced by pouring water first and then pouring the concentrate. This will ensure that the "soul" of the espresso (coffee oil) will not be washed away by the water. And these are the two main differences between Long Black and American style.

But in daily life, in order to make the product look more beautiful and to make the product more convenient, most coffee shops will use the method of pouring water first and then pouring the concentrate when making American coffee. Therefore, the main difference between American and Long Black is concentration.
Therefore, if you want to drink a cup of black coffee with a richer taste, Long Black will be a very good choice. Still taking Front Street as an example, Front Street mentioned before that when making hot American style, Front Street generally uses a ratio of 1:4, that is, 40ml of coffee liquid will be paired with 160ml of hot water. If you are making Long Black, the ratio will be changed to 1:3, that is, 40ml of coffee liquid will be paired with 120ml of hot water. The hot water will be poured first, and then the concentrate. It should be noted that the Front Street store still does not sell Long Black~
